Hey Al:

A quick guess about why software distribution was separated from Commercebridge (now E-Business Services). Though management talks a good game re the outlook for Software Services, this business may not have long term "legs" due to the move to ASPs.

For example, I recently turned down an e-mail offer I got from Block Financial (a DR customer) for the latest version of Tax Cut because I can get the same functionality for free in a Web-based application from half a dozen different sites.

The software biz may have been managed a lot better than Beyond.com, but it still looks fundamentally the same in a lot of aspects. By separating the two businesses, management may be taking the initial step to "distance" software from CommerceBridge in case it fails.

Just a wild-ass theory.

Charlie
