The whole premise under which this thread was started, was "murder victim+no known motive+no physical evidence" = let's investigate and SOLVE IT so that James Van de Velde, if innocent, can be restored to his good name and reputation.

This situation does not have the "luxury" of "place in file and wait until somebody confesses." No case really does; but if Jim is going to be exonerated, he has to be affirmatively excluded as a suspect; and/or another person, the true perpetrator must be found.
