Quantum Effect Devices Inc. (NasdaqNM:QEDI - news) shares closed up 40-1/2, or 253 percent, at 56-1/2 on the Nasdaq after its $16 a share IPO raised $48 million. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company makes microprocessors that are needed to drive routers, switches, set-top boxes, storage devices and cable modems.
