FROM MONEY MAGAZINE.COM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>CALLING ALL QUALCOMM OWNERS. Qualcomm shareholders had yet another banner day, with the stock climbing $9 to almost $136 after the company announced plans to build a CDMA cellular telephone network in the capitalist frontier otherwise known as the People's Republic of China. The deal was inked with China United Telecommunications Corporation, China's second-largest government-owned telecom company. Neither party revealed the exact dollar (or yuan) figures involved, but plans call for an initial ten million subscribers for the new network. China Telecom already has 90% of the country's 40 million cell phone users, who use the less efficient European GSM network standard. Yesterday, rumors of today's announcement boosted Qualcomm shares $16.75. Rest assured that if, like me, you don't own the stock, I feel your pain.
