SNC-Lavalin to Build Cogeneration Plant in Windsor FEBRUARY 2, 2000 MONTREAL, QUEBEC--A consortium comprising SNC-Lavalin and Hitachi Ltd. of Japan, acting as a sub-contractor to Hitachi Canada Ltd., has won an $18.3 million contract for the construction of a cogeneration plant at Domtar Inc.'s paper mill in Windsor, Quebec, a facility in which Domtar will invest a total of $23 million.
The consortium, led by SNC-Lavalin, will build the new power plant on a turnkey basis. This includes engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. Engineering has already begun and on-site construction will commence in June 2000 and be completed in July 2001. The new facility will help Domtar to reduce its operating costs at the Windsor mill by generating 32 MW of electricity.
This new contract confirms SNC-Lavalin's leadership position in obtaining turnkey contracts in the power generation market.
