[VDSL & ADSL]

James & Fellow Amatians...lend me your ear,

I specifically remember Amati stating that they "projected the VDSL
market to be larger" than the ADSL market. Furthermore, their
target market was the business customer.

Their behavior in the MCI trials (NEC/VDSL) certainly supports the above ... while Westell and others may gain the mindshare of
consumers and the needs of low speed business customers.

My question... given the early momentum of a consumer ADSL market
interested in speeds of 1.5mb(initially), is Amati in
danger of losing key revenues to support key growth iniatives.

I know they have had trials with Microsoft ... but are we missing
a juicy market that may predetermine the direction of ADSL vendor success.

Personally, I think a vendor would like to go with a cost effective
solution that is upgradeable (in speeds) to support the changing
needs of their customers. Does Amati have a distinct advantage
here..or can others like Westell (since they sell both CAP/DMT and lisc from Amati) "gain first mover advantage" that results in long-term advantage??

Am I making sense...or have I had too much coffee?

Bob
