I expect this, Vod-Mnnsy, to be a done deal by tomorrow.

The business at hand is the following:

Finish the merger with Airtouch.
Finish the north american merger with Bel-Gte.
Assimilate the best parts of Mannesmann.
Focus on the emerging internet business.

Vod has a full plate to deal with in the next few years. On top of that someone may bid for this company. Perhaps a combined ATT-BT...perhaps NTT DoCoMo. I have read NTT is looking to buy or partner with a european cellular firm. What better choice than Vod and Vod would get greater access in Asia.

Finally, why would Msft want to hook-up with Att-Bt in a major mobile deal other than the fact that they have a heavy investment in Att. As one analyst this week put it Vod is beating the pants off Att and Bt mobile. Bt has allowed Vod to capture the British mobile market when they had the chance many years ago to cut them off at the pass. They then had the chance to purchase MCI but were scared off. They had the chance to bid for Mannesmann but passed. It could have been theirs their pockets are flush with cash. The dinosaurs at Bt need to wake up. As for Att, they had the numerous chances to buy out Vod over the years if they so chose but they decided to transform themselves into a cable company instead. Oh well, their loss is our gain. A huge gain at that.

I see Vod at least doubling in the course of the next year. I suspect it will meander in price after this merger is complete until people realize what a behemoth they have become.

It has been a great 3 months watching this merger unfold.

Dave, those leaps weren't bad buys were they?
