<<with every day that goes by, the feeling i get is that this is going to be bigger than any reasonable person ever anticipated.>>
Seems that way to me, too, Mark. 'Course you and I and others here have been watching Coms for a relatively long time so one picks up the subtle vibes. As Jill asked recently, how come the slooooow ramp-up in Coms price now that the Palm news is known? I agree that it's about investors, including some investors w/previous positions in Coms that didn't work out so great, being cautious and trying to get a handle on the Palm IPO/distribution plan and the best angle to attack it from. Only two angles at the moment: buy Coms or buy Palm at IPO. The real fun should begin after the IPO.
Yet, it's hard for me to see much downside risk here and, as you've pointed out, this could be much bigger than even Coms/Palm bulls have anticipated. Seems like one of those deals where we might all look back down the road and ask ourselves how come we didn't load the boat at $52? Still, until Coms starts to fly or the Palm shares are actually distributed, there's risk that it will fizzle. In which case, I think there would be a group proverbial tar and feathering of Coms BOD and exec. mgmt. by the owners of 3Com. Virtually unthinkable that the distribution plan would blow up.
Many will call me a fool (wouldn't be the first time) but I still think Eric B. and company have some excellent plans for Coms sans Palm. AJMHO.
Best.
