Re: European Internet Infrastructure Statistics

Jochen- Yes it certainly does seem Greenspan consulted Dyson <vbg>. I hope you don't take my comments wrong and I appreciate you posting the link to the article that painted Europe in a negative light. I don't mean to get into a political discussion on this thread. I'm only trying to go around and gather facts about Internet infrastructure. In this case the facts are easy because they can be measured quite accurately. But if I answered your current set of questions, one by one, I'm afraid we would get off topic quite rapidly.

Ultimately, as in infrastructure investor, I'm quite interested in how and when Europe will be wired. Unfortunately, as in the US, wiring Europe does to a large extent depend upon economic and political issues. To that degree, those details are most interesting to me.

Now here are a few figures I did find that I consider enlightening.
-Europe, if stretched to the Russian border, has a population greater than the US by one hundred million.
-13% of Europeans are online at home today.
-43% of US(Americans) are online at home today.
-Americans spent $31 billion in 1999 via e-commerce.
-Europeans spent $5.4 billion in 1999 via e-commerce.

-48% of Sweden's population is online.
-23% of UK's population is online.
-15% of Germany's population is online.
-10% of France's population is online.
-8% of Italy's population is online.
