OT food talk:
That sounds like an INCREDIBLE meal. I love the way peppers, garlic and onions smell when they're sauteing. It's got to be the best smell in the world. And the slight bitterness of broccoli rabe! ACK!
I just love food, I love to read about it, shop for it, cook it, eat it. I spent a month in Provence last summer (and am trying to drag Jill this coming summer) and was blown away by the importance the French put on food. My girlfriend (who is French) and I would start the day by buying croissants at the boulangerie, then shop at the butcher, the outdoor market, cook all morning, and enjoy a long lunch with whoever stopped by. The topic was always food: whether the vendor of this week's olives was better than that of last week's, the subtle differences between the fresh goat cheeses, the unexpected pleasure of finding the elusive Cavaillon melons at the market and eating them drizzled with Muscat. OK, I'll stop before I explode.... forgive me. |
