David,

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on several issues.

1. While it is true that some new technologies have a very short half life, storage related products tend to have relatively long lives. Witness SCSI, and even IDE. Enhancements have been made along the way, but these technologies (along with Fibre Channel) are going to be around for a long time.

2. Brocade is already making money. None of their competitors are. That gives them a major advantage.

3. IBM and others have made a TON of money on proprietary systems. Initially, at least, SANs do NOT require a lot of interoperability.

4. I do believe that Brocade is the gorilla of FC, at least until proven otherwise. Perhaps it is just my nature, but I NEVER underestimate the competition.
