I agree with you. Did you see last night's PBS Nova special on man-made diamonds? Seem that more than one-carot size, clear diamonds are now being made in several parts of the world whereby only sophisitated equitment can distinguish these from the natural ones. De Beers is seen trying to keep its monopoly by touting that naturally formed "forever" diamonds are superior to the man-made "forever" diamonds.

Seems to me that the consumer is really looking for a flaw-less diamonds and willing to pay big bucks for the bragging rights to own it. With the man-made ones coming in, the De Beers' control will only lessen' particularly with the increasing price of natural diamonds compared to the lowering costs of man-made ones.

Perhaps, it is only a question of time when diamonds are not only "forever", but also "all over." If De Beers gets the patent rights to make the man-made ones, perhaps the price can be maintained a few more years.
