I was so "on top of things" during the impeachment mess that I have been dreadfully lackadaisical since.....

Irving has expressed ambivalence about Nato in the past, not because he is not an internationalist, but because he is afraid that the alliance structure hampers our freedom of action. Thus, it is possible that he has come out against Nato. Bill is definitely for Nato expansion.....

Off hand, what I recall is that Wanniski has set himself up as a universal pundit, on the strength of his reputation as a supply- side publicist and his contacts, such as Jack Kemp. In the process, he has drifted towards economic nationalism and isolationism, although not so far as Buchanan. I think that was the central issue, although I may be mistaken.......
