I hate to rain on all of your parades. But the fact is, this is a growing practice among many, many companies around the country. I work for a mortgage company and we get VOE's (Verifications of Employment) for just about all of our customers. In my experience, I would say approx. 1 in 8 large employers are currently doing this and more are migrating to this practice.

If you think about it from a business standpoint(and as a stockholder), it makes sense. Why should FTU have to incur expenses for an employee who is no longer contributing to the company. FTU is trying to recoup its cost for this service.
