ROCHESTER, N.H. and MARINA DEL REY, Calif., Feb 3, 2000 (BUSINESS
WIRE) -- Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS) has entered into a strategic
partnership with Sonoma Systems, a leading provider of Broadband
Integrated Access Devices, to resell Sonoma's products under
Cabletron's SmartSwitch brand of ATM solutions. The combination of
Cabletron's award-winning SmartSwitch ATM switching products and
Sonoma's ATM access products creates an integrated, end-to-end solution
for the delivery of converged voice and data services.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cabletron will resell Sonoma's Access
and Integrator products, a family of multiservice ATM Integrated Access
Devices (IADs) that deliver business-class Internet access, voice,
video and high-speed data services. Cabletron will label the new
products as the SmartSwitch 1500 Compact and SmartSwitch 1500 Modular.

The SmartSwitch 1500s, targeted at both the service provider and
enterprise markets, will extend ATM WAN connectivity to remote sites
