Aloha, why don't you ask Roger Babb on the thread? Roger covered those stocks long ago, in early 1998, when he realized the absurdity in i-nuts was going to continue despite the lack of fundamentals. Not all shorts lose money, in most of my short positions I've made quite a bit. ZITL, ZONA, RRRR to name a few. Being short doesn't mean you can never cover, Mr. Pink was short MRVC in the 20's, rode it down to the single digits (they had to restate earnings), he covered and now thinks the company is a good long, even at today's price. In most cases shorts have done more research than the longs, because their position is riskier, for the reasons you mentioned. I'm just hoping they screwed up in evaluating THQI.
btw, AMZN would have been a great short in either April or December of last year.
