NEW YORK -- Shares of BBN Corp. (BBN) rose for the second day in a row on speculation that the Cambridge, Mass., Internet service provider may be a takeover target.
BBN shares rose 1 1/2, or 8.1%, to 20 1/8 Friday on NYSE volume of 709,700 shares, compared with average volume of 104,900.
The gains added to a 15.5% rise on Thursday. A good part of Thursday's gain came in the last hour of trading, after rumor specialist Charles Payne of Wall Street Strategies in New York passed on a tip about a possible deal to his clients.
Payne speculated that AT&T Corp. (T) could be the suitor.
Officials at BBN and AT&T declined to comment, citing company policy.
