RMBS investors, good news and bad news: The Good News Intel is going to brag about the upcoming Willamette processor during this month's Intel's Developer's Forum in Palm Springs, February 15. ( news.cnet.com ) This processor will run "well in excess of one GHz" and it will make Intel the undisputed leader in performance once again. The good news here is that Willamette will be paired up with RDRAM, at least initially. Intel continues to pursue RDRAM for high-end desktops and workstations, and Willamette fits right in. Sooner or later, Willamette may also be paired up with DDR SDRAM, if only to present an alternative to customers, but I really don't think DDR SDRAM will be ideal for Willamette-based desktops. The Bad News More and more, I'm hearing that no one wants RDRAM in servers. It seems like for servers which demand huge capacities of DRAM per machine, DDR SDRAM is the way to go. Although RDRAM may make it into some servers, the vast majority of the server market will choose DDR. Tenchusatsu
