Steve, It is good that you ask that what we say is backed up by scripture. Four leading views have emerged. The major dispute has been over when the Rapture will occur. These views are *Posttribulationism. It holds that the Rapture occurs with the Second Coming of Christ. The Church will be Raptured and will meet Christ in the air and immediately return with Him to the earth. This supposedly will occur after the tribulation.
*Midtribulationism. It holds that the Rapture will occur in the middle of the last seven years before the Second Coming of Christ.
*Partial rapturism. Only those specially qualified will be Raptured at the beginning of the last seven years and there will be subsequent raptures as others qualify.
*Pretribulationism. This view is widely held by premillenarians, and says the Rapture will occur more than seven years before the Second Coming of Christ.
Yes, I do read different books other than the bible because I like to find out the viewpoints of Christian men that have studied this matter much deeper than I have, and know the Hebrew and the Greek and have been especially taught in seminary to help others to better comprehend the bible prophies. The latest I have read is from John F. Walvoord, considered one of the foremost interpreters of bible prophesy from a premillenial and dispensational perspective. He served as president of Dallas Theological Institute from 1952 - 1986. Since that time to present he as served in the capacity of Chancellor.
As long as we are sincerely following God's will in our attempting to understand His Word in prophesy, I believe He will bless us in our attempts. After all, it encourages all of us to devote more time to the study of His Word.
God help us,
James
