niceguy - <Intel's real strength is its investments.>

It is certainly one of them.

<At the moment its microprocessor division is railing in disarray. >

If you believe this, don't be a CHICKEN and short INTC.

<Intel's investments can mask the very serious problems within the microprocessor division...>

No they CAN'T!!!! It owuld show up clearly on the quarterly statement. If you believe this, you are off your rocker.

<Consequently not a short...but I wouldn't hesitate cashing out my Intel shares and replacing them with AMD shares...>

Since you don't own any INTC,, you can't take advantage of Intel's alleged disarray in the uP division. You should short the stock.

<That ratio of $100 to $36 that we've been talking about over the past week is likely to be much smaller by year end.>

I'm in INTC for the long haul. I have cost basis in INTC in single digits. I also add to my Intel holdings every month. I also participate in the employee stock p[participation plan. I am very bullish on Intel's LONG TERM PLAN to provide Silicon content in various growth areas going forward. I also like the way Intel is aggressively expanding its capacity at the moment. This says A LOT about how Intel views the health of the business for the next 5-10 years.

As far AMD goes, I wouldn't sell it if I owned it...quite yet. Retroactively investing, I should have got in at 16. 40 may still be good for a short term investment. Don't know. But I certainly will never reallocate INTC into AMD. Risk capital, maybe. INTC is the core.

I know your arguments coming back. Potential, all that. To tell you the truth, I am NOT impressed with AMD's long term product roadmap. This is just my personal opinion.
