NextWave eyes W-CDMA

NextWave Telecom, the largest C-block license holder in the U.S., plans to de-ploy a GSM-based Wideband-CDMA third generation network and is looking for a strategic investor to help fulfil its mobile plans.Roy Berger, senior vice president of business planning and chief market-ing officer, said NextWave now has a dual broadband strategy which will be-gin to be implemented if it emerges from Chapter 11 as planned on Nov. 29. NextWave has an average of 30MHz spectrum in most of its Business Trading Areas and initially plans to use 10MHZ for its wireless local loop (WLL) broad-band Internet service while keeping the remainder for a full 3G mobile rollout when the technology becomes commer-cially existing mobile operators to evolve to 3G as well as meeting various specific needs of new satellite and terrestrial systems.
