I know you have a special liking to this because of the small size of the deal. Actually, the deal got even smaller after it was first announced. Now that this is over, this ought to mean something! -g-

Vodafone Agrees to Buy Mannesmann for $204 Billion (Update2)

(Updates share prices, adds comments from Gent from sixth
paragraph and supervisory board approval. For a special report on
the takeover, see EXTRA .)

Dusseldorf, Germany, Feb. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Vodafone AirTouch
Plc, the world's largest wireless-communications company, agreed
to buy Mannesmann AG for $203.8 billion in stock and assumed debt,
sending phone company shares higher on expectations of more
mergers.
''This intensifies the pressure on others to act and supports
the trend towards size,'' said Holger Grawe, an analyst at WestLB
Panmure in Dusseldorf. ''With 10 percent of the worldwide market
in terms of customers, the company is state-of-the-art -- that's
unbeatable.'' >>
