Yep! I stand corrected! I shot a bad number from memory
and it was off. I'm reading a peak of 60 before that major
all time rally! My guess of 80 was way off! In the chart
below, you can see the OCT 1997 roller-coaster ride and
the NOV. 1998 biggest NASDAQ internet rally of all times!

Shorten the weekly profile to 24 or 12 months and you will
get a better feel for the major market reversal ranges in
the VIX. It take a bit getting use to. When the VIX is up
it means rally pending. When the VIX is down, a dump is just
around the corner. The VIX has been dropping with this small
rally we are having. It is getting close to tax filing dead
line time and IRA contributions cutoffs may mean the thrill
is gone until the next bit of news. March Fed meeting should
prove interesting.
