DH, All of your points are accurate. The two points I was making are:

- The storage is not always purchased in a clustered configuration, at least initially. This still leaves the motherboard as a single point of failure, even if recoverable. Per unit of storage, adding a second server(filer) does add to the cost, regardless of the performance increase. There are still a lot of bean counters out there focusing solely on Price/Mb.

- The ease of install/upgrade/component replacement appeals to the vast majority of customers. But very large customers are used to having vendors onsite, full-time. They really struggle with the filer concept. Just talking from experience.

Also, I'm suspect NTAP is working on the motherboard issue, because that is about all EMC can say when they are trying to charge three times the price for their product. Many customers resent EMC's 'aggressive' sales tactics, and EMC is sweating in the field. I love it!!!
