I agree with your assessment and we have either an engineering and/or management problem because of this. I worked with the founders of Intel back in the days when they were a Fairchild. In fact I owned the stock for many years, but sold when they were scrambling to buy businesses they were not experts in managing and starting to run a mutual fund operation to boost income.

These fellows from Fairchild understood how to push technology and what the schedule risks were. They also stuck to the business they knew best. This new crew seems to be driven by "short term money" rather than the long term future of the company. This is going to be interesting to watch and I am betting it will be a Harvard case study sometime in the future. <ggg>
