STOCKHOLM, Sweden--L.M. Ericsson today announced it will work with Intel Corp. to jointly define next-generation flash memory products for future cellular phones and wireless devices that use the Internet. In addition, the Swedish telecommunications giant said it has entered into a three-year commitment to purchase flash memories from Intel.

Ericsson and Intel said they plan to define new flash memories that are capable of storing code and data such as Internet Web pages, e-mail, voice and music. The collaboration will support new handset products that can take advantage of third-generation (3G) cellular networks that combine voice and Internet capabilities in a single portable device, Ericsson said.

"This collaboration with Intel is one important enabler for Ericsson so that we can be well positioned to meet the exploding demand for Internet-enabled mobiles," said Jan Ahrenbring, vice president of marketing for Ericsson Mobile Communications.
