It's now seven months since Qualcomm started leaking that Nokia and Motorola will buy chipsets from them. They started the hype with some US analysts last July.

Mary, Mother of God - how long will this vapor war drag on? How many times can this same rumor be regurgitated for a stock price boost? Doesn't it start to stink after half a year or so? And what's wrong with Texas Instruments as a chipset provider? Last time I looked they seemed like they were emerging as a leading contender. As far as I know, Nokia already has a W-CDMA chipset provider selected. As do Motorola, Matsushita and others. And it sure ain't Qualcomm.

Maybe there's some point why Qualcomm insists on floating these whispers for seven long months. But I can't understand why they just don't either announce the deal or keep their traps shut. What good does this endless publicity campaign do?

I like Texas Instruments, because they just do their thing and announce their deals after they have closed them. Bless those pesky little Texans - they have the common sense God gave to a garden slug; not to alienate customers by conducting negotiations in public.
