Another key factor for telling if it is going to gap the next day is how the Market Makers are jostling for position.

I believe it is key to get Level II quote system to see how the trading is going.

I traded for too long without Level II and lost a lot of money being the last one to get out of a stock when it was falling.

Level II allows you the capability to somewhat figure out which way those MMs are going to go.

After a while; you can figure out how each MM is going to react.
