"Star Trek's" James Doohan to be a dad again at 80
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 (Reuters) - Actor James Doohan, best known as Scotty the engineer on the original ``Star Trek' television series, will be a father again just weeks after his 80th birthday, his agent said on Friday.
Wende Doohan, 43, is expected to give birth to the couple's third child, a girl, on April 1, according to the actor's agent, Steve Stevens. Doohan turns 80 March 3.
The pregnancy was an accident, but the couple is ``thrilled,' Stevens said.
``I guess he's still beaming it up,' Stevens quipped, referring to Scotty's job manning the ``transporter' device aboard the USS Enterprise on ``Star Trek' and the oft-repeated line uttered by Captain Kirk (William Shatner) from the surface of a distant planet, ``Beam me up Scotty.'
Doohan and his wife, who live near Seattle, already have two sons, aged 21 and 23, Stevens said.
The Canadian-born actor recently signed a deal to serve as a spokesman for a new online bill-paying service and has a lead role in a film, ``The Duke,' scheduled for release this summer, Stevens said. He recently appeared opposite Randy Quaid on pay-per-view television in the movie ``Bug Buster.' |
