One-time write down was a good thing.

I'm hopping MSFT's money will not go mostly on one time write-downs at Inprise and they use it to do what Apple did and reinvent themselves -which of course we know they are trying to do!

As far as I have been able to tell, the write-down was due to a re-evaluation of the value of their real-estate. They didn't actually lose/spend any money. In fact, to me it looked like a way to offset the tax burden of the $100M from MSFT. By taking the write-down in the same fiscal year as the MSFT donation, they severely reduced the amount of taxes they had to pay on the $100M.

David, you seem to be the accountant around here, does this jibe with your understanding of what happened?
