Do you think that chipset driver optimizations play at all into the Win98/NT performance disparity that Tom saw in the KX133?

Sorry. I have no idea. But, VIA and AMD have both stated that VIA will concentrate on chipsets for the comsumer market and AMD will concentrate on Chipsets for the Workstation and Server markets. This delineation could very well be at the root of the KX133 performance disparity between Win98 and WinNT. Also, let's wait to see numbers from Windows 2000. I don't know why Tom didn't use it (although I have not yet read it). Perhaps Win98 optimizations better lend themselves to Win 2000 performance than to WinNT. These would be my guesses.
