Actually, my silver sugar bowl, which I actually use, and the base of which was all bent, making the bowl look positively tipsy, got into the dishwasher once, by accident.
And guess what! Not only did it come out sparkling clean, with all that brown scum off it, but -- its base was all straightened out, too! A miracle!!
In any event, I always stick it (and the cream pitcher, too) in the dishwasher now. Beats silver polish and a toothbrush.
As for the engraved silver I got for my wedding, all I have left is one fork. All the other pieces must have gotten thrown in the garbage at some point or another. Ah, well. Less to polish! |
