Apcom bets on cable modems in India

apcomgroup.com

New Delhi, February 4: Apcom has launched Dax cable modems that allow faster as well as cheaper internet access - through cable TV - than the present net access mode where a telephone line is used.

"Burgeoining internet users coupled with traffic congestion due to limited bandwidths have made net access both more expensive and slower," said Apcom director Deepak Mirza.

Priced at Rs. 15,000, the cable modem would find a booming market once the big cable providers like Siticable, Hathaway and Hindujas begin offering internet services on their cables, he said. "I estimate the cable modem market to be one lakh units within the next 12 months," he said, adding that it was a step ahead even of the analog modems.
