IF Willy (TM Cirruslvr) is somehow a much faster processor than Thunderbird the end is not exactly going to come for AMD. The P6 core isn't going to make it well into the Ghz, or so I assume since Intel is probably trying to get Willy out as fast as they can. The Athlon core was made for MHz and it seems the Athlon will be able to do GHz with much more ease than a P6 product. When Willy initally comes out I really doubt Intel will have enough product available to drastically lower prices on Cumine AND still be able to make the profit they are used to because Willy is supposedly going to be big. Intel will probably price Willy at current Cumine prices (adjusted for MHz of course). Cumine may not get much past 1GHz but the Athlon almost assuredly will. AMD may lower prices and offer the same MHz or a bit less for much lower prices than Willy because the Athlon will more than likely be smaller than Willy. I think Kash was saying something like this about the AThlon being squeezed down. Of course, this isn't nearly as good of a position as right now. Also, later this year Mustang and one or two SMP capable chipsets will come out. With large on-chip caches AMD will be able to sell higher ASP processors. When is Foster coming out??? ALL the above speculation assume Willy is somehow MUCH faster than the Thunderbird. We have yet to know the performance of either. Man, I want to know now! "All that capacity going to waste for lack of Athlon customers and the world is starving for Flash! Do you see a possible match here?" AMD is already gradually increasing Fab space over the next two years with their FASL thing with Fujitsu.
