it is obvious to me now that you have not finished your research on cree. if you do not know the cost of a cree high bright blue LED vs the cost of a sapphire based blue LED...why are you posting about it? may i suggest you read all of the messages on this and the yahoo cree threads...all of your answers are there especially in the links. including pricing, yield increases and engineering advantages. some very generous folks have done your work for you already...you just have to read it. if your a short with a goal to convince me to sell...i understand your pain but... fugetabotit if the latter is the case, it is even more important that you read the threads.
