I just logged in to the go2net site, and it's as screwball as ever, the subjectmarks page is illegible, there are no hundred-ranges in the archived posts on old threads, the ascii is still all wonkey, the old threads in the archives are lost, the navigation links are all emboldened on the go2net site [why?!][you think that's what people come here to read?? - not so, they come for the text of the posts, imho] ... look at this, the same page in the real thing and the go2net site in pseudo-Classic - Message 12786394 Message 12786394
... ascii - there are no spelling mistakes in this Classic thread header - Subject 28756 ... but there are many in this of go2net, no fault of the founder obviously - Subject 28756
I read again last night the 'Death of SI' PM everybody got from go2net 24 January, and noticed the mention of Carlson On-line being carried over on the Canadian threads - well thanks a lot, really, i think i was the only one who brought that up ... David did tell me though that he was getting very few hits from SI lately anyway, and i have prepared for the demise of SI by bookmarking Carlson on my browser ... i think the wonkey ascii of the go2net site is far more damaging, as is the lack of the standard of search and scanning faculties established by the Dryers, but thank you for that small favour, for a moment there it was almost like someone was listening.
Should that in fact be the case, that someone is listening, they might consider listening to this - It would be a major mistake on the part of go2net to destroy a superior site in order to promote their in-house model. Whether they own it or not - they have every right to be proud of their astute purchase of SI with nothing more than a handful of share paper, good deal guys, but consider what you do with it in the process of squeezing dollars out of the investment - If you feel you absolutely must destroy the original, first make your neo-SI up to the standard of 1997 Dryer SI ... before, not later ... What you do here will reflect on your company and the value of its paper in the market, please think about it ... cheers |
