It was quite amusing listening to the Schwab old school boys talk about technology vs the new school Cybercorp guys during the conference call.

One person asked if Schwab was going to roll out cyberx to all of its clients. The Schwab guys made the argument that cyberx was not useful to bulk of its clientele because it was not something the clientele demanded. This was followed by Berber's response that basically said that he agreed that it was where Schwab should head in the future as well as the industry as a whole.

The conclusion one draws from such comments is that old school schwab guys have no clue about quality of execution. Everone deserves quality execution regardless of wether that person is a daytrader, position trader or "1 trade a year investor".

The inferior browser based systems open up clients to huge risks on execution during times when the market makers turn off their auto execution systems and manually handle orders.

The old school is either ignorant of this fact or is just happy to reap the benefits of order flow at the expense of the bulk of its clientele.

Time will tell if they are serious about improving execution for the bulk of their clients with cyberx technology, or just wanted to round out their offering to daytraders.
