Anyone paying attention?

Friday Feb 4, 2000 the shareholders of ELNK and MSPG agreed to merge. Since HHH has/had both of these companies the underlying composition will soon change.

According to the merger prospectus each share of ELNK will convert to 1.615 shares of the merged company. The 2 shares of ELNK will become 3 shares + 0.230. This added to the 3 shares of MSPG already in HHH will make a total of 6 shares of ELNK. ELNK, but ELNK shares were converted. The surviving company will be known as EarthLink with the ticker symbol ELNK.

I'm not yet certain how the cash for the .230 shares will be distributed to HHH shareholders. Nor am I clear as to how to calculate gains/losses on this. I would like to know so if there are any accounting/tax folks who read this thread who would care to offer an opinion. . .
