> When these biotechs get bid up I don't think that anybody is thinking about intellectual property .... the Yahooligans ... <
Thinking of those "Yahooligans" (apt identifier!) mindlessly, greedily bidding up smarmy biotechs and overlooking the trophies -- is what made me think of "fishing" at a trout farm (an insult to the fish).
> <fishing at the trout farm> No I have not really done that, I think I've done this the hard way ... <
Hey, Mike. I wasn't thinking about YOU at the trout farm. I was thinking about the Yahooligans -- who would never take the time to research their picks, but would be happy to crib the careful work you articulate on these threads.
BTW, Like you, I've bought good solid science -- not the hype-ables -- then sold them when they zoomed to what seemed (to me) irrational, can't-stick-yet levels.
I've been lucky so far. eg: Sold my favorite TGEN near the top -- missed the top -- then got back in when it corrected. And the profits let me add one more of my favorites to my biotech basket.
> If I could go back and do it over I wouldn't have tried so hard to sniff out cheap stocks with nifty science, I'd just buy stuff that was hypeable and wait for them to show up. <
I don't believe that. It would be too crass. Out of character for you. Besides, sniffing out the cheap stocks with the nifty science is 90% of the fun, and all of the challenge.
> I think your comment rubbed me the wrong way. < Darn! There I go getting in trouble again. I'm afraid that the humor I was born with is called "irony." People are always misunderstanding my droll humor.
But I'm innocent, cuz I can't help it, it's a genetic thing. I think my irony-streak comes from being part English. But there's hope. With all the gene therapy discoveries, maybe a Delete-Irony-Mutation therapy will come along some day soon.
> Sure, 3x my money, looks easy so it is not supposed to count? <
Actually, it only LOOKS easy. When the music stops, you will count gains. Many of the momo yokels will find themselves stuck with expensive shares for obscure outfits that will never see such heights again -- especially given the Market's merciless long memory for "fallen angels."
> And for sure, any idiot can make money in biotech right now. Yes, great fun while it lasts. <
For me, the fun of this rally has been in being able to jump at some opportunities, with the confidence that I understand the company and their lead drugs, their market and their competition.
I'm so happy I was ready for this rally, because I've got *not one drop* of gambler blood, and would have missed out on the rally without my prior research. What a lucky-timely payoff for all those hours of burning the midnight oil, with the assistance of so many contributors on the SI Biotech threads.
Best regards, Mike. Cheryl
PS --- I would have answered your post sooner, but I was out in my backyard garden working by floodlight, getting the weeds out of my spring perennials, that are coming up SO early. The roses never did stop blooming.
What a terrific, atypical Jan-Feb we're having in the NW. No winter! Ground never froze, blue skies most days, just the right amount of rain for working the ground ... Yeah for the year 2000! |
