Regarding LU, I was just guessing. I recall that AT&T was a customer as well as Hewlett-Packard. AT&T is also a competitor albeit in first generation products. There are other competitors (whose names escape me at the moment - maybe somebody else would fill in the gap) but it is all at the level of the first generation of products. So far, there is no competition with respect to the newly introduced second generation of products.
Vicor was the first, in the market, to introduce the concept of "modular" power supplies. This is something like a music equipment made up of separate components: tuner, amplifier, etc... versus one integrated unit. The result is so much more flexible for O.E.M. to build upon. Now many others picked up the idea. The new generation is the same with additional new technology that allows the company to offer components which are much more powerful and cost much less to manufacture (about twice the density for half the linear size). One important technology the company own is the so called "zero current switching" which is too technical (and secret) for me to explain here.

I hope this is of some help.

Ghassan.
