Time to revive this thread: Recent release from the
company re: drilling a kimberlite:

Regards

Dan

Here is the release:

Shore Gold Inc.
2/1/00 - Drilling Underway on Star Kimberlite
SHORE GOLD INC ("SGF-V") - Drilling Underway on Star Kimberlite
Jonathan Challis, President, is pleased to announce that diamond drilling is now underway on its 100% owned Star Kimberlite located 60 km east of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The Star Kimberlite was discovered by Shore in 1996 when a magnetic anomaly measuring approximately 2.0 km by 1.5 km was drill-tested recovering NQ-size (48 mm diameter) core. Analysis of the core samples from three drill holes, using caustic fusion, produced 179 diamonds from 465 kg of sample weight. This included 10 macrodiamonds (less than 0.5 mm in one dimension). Drilling in 1997, at one of the 1996 sites, recovering PQ-size (85 mm diameter) core, produced 749 diamonds from 983 kg of sample weight, including 67 macrodiamonds. The best drill hole in 1997 yielded one diamond for every kilogram of sample weight with the largest diamond recovered measuring 2.0 mm in size. Four separate kimberlite units have been intersected with 94% of the diamonds recovered from a distinct kimberlite unit near the top of the kimberlite-sedimentary sequence. This unit currently averages between 40 and 50 metres in thickness and has been intersected in every drill hole to date.

The focus of the 1999-2000 winter drill program is to delineate the Star Kimberlite to determine the continuity, thickness, and consistency of diamond content, of the main diamond-bearing zone. These drill results will increase the level of confidence in preliminary calculations of resource size and economic potential. Should the drilling prove the continuity and thickness of the kimberlite over the area indicated by the geophysical data, a diamond-bearing kimberlite resource measuring hundreds of millions of tonnes could be established.

The Star Kimberlite is accessible by road year-round and is close to power and water. Preliminary scoping studies by independent mining engineers familiar with producing diamond operations, suggest a total cash operating cost of US$10-$15/tonne is feasible for open-pit mines located in this area.

The company currently holds a 100% working interest in over 52,000 acres in and around the Star Kimberlite property.
