I found one suggestion supplied by others on why your system is so slow in transferring files when connected to a hub.

"This sounds like a duplex issue. If both PC's are set to full duplex then they will transfer information between them very quickly. The problem appears when you insert the hub. A hub is a half duplex device. You will have to set (force) your cards to 10 or 100 and half duplex. This should do it. I personally do not care for Auto Detect it has burned me in the past."

I don't have any suggestions on why you can not access the other computers on your network when you connect three computers to a hub but you can when you only have two computers connected to your hub.
