The next takeover candidate in the Linux arena could be Linuxcare, which is not even public yet. There is a Linuxcare related thread at:

Subject 32880

Hoover's has Linuxcare listed as one of its "Top Ten Tech Takeover Targets":

Excerpt from the Hoover's article:

hoovers.com

Linuxcare (Nasdaq: LXCR proposed) - It's all about consolidation, baby. Telecoms. Telecom equipment. Internet software. Internet content. Why not Linux? Several Linux-related IPOs have sent their companies' market cap higher than Russia's debt, giving them a valuable currency for buying out smaller fish in what promises to be a very big ocean. Or at least a good-sized sea. But many vendors such as Red Hat still farm out their service operations to companies as uncool as IBM, which is where Linuxcare fits in. A services provider and Linux consultant, it figures out how to make its clients' Windows-free systems hum. But any suitors better hurry since this goldfish has filed for an IPO, hoping to grow some piranha teeth of its own.
