NASD Short Sale Rule Not Applicable During After-Hours
SelectNet Session

(Alert #2000-08)

In response to numerous inquires, The Nasdaq Stock Market® hereby advises that the
National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD®) Rule 3350 (the Short Sale
Rule) will continue to be inapplicable during Nasdaq's extended SelectNet® session.

Nasdaq® will continue to monitor after-hours trading activity, in conjunction with the
introduction of a Nasdaq-generated inside quote on February 7, 2000, and determine over the
next 30-60 days if an extension of the Short Sale Rule to the after-hours SelectNet trading
session is appropriate.
