There's no doubt its been surprising folks... and burning some! My question is why do you think we "should see one more significant run"? Frankly I think its best to let the market tell us. All my work tells me that we are at an important juncture right now, and a juncture that is not likely to be prone to a brief fake out. I've already taken all my long positions out of the market, but am not going to commit to the short side in any big way unless the market proves itself. Its fun to speculate about causes, but as you say, the market is always right. No need for us to be heroes, just let it speak to us. During the day I trade the spoos anyways, and will be long or short, and usually both, as the day suggests. Mind you I note that my SELLSELLSELL key and COVER! key is much more worn than my BUY key... ;)
