Well it would seem that the install of corl Linux is not as easy as suggested. I'll go into that later.

I use the term in Linux and it is identicle as saying in Unix. In Linux the root file system refer to the top of the file structure tree. The root or top must be assigned to a physical partition.

I just going to stick with ide drives. the first physical device, also refered to as the primary master device is call device hda. the first partition is called hda1, the second had2 etc. The second ide device is called hdb, the third hdc etc

Now if you have one hard disk with lets say borg os on the first, and the second is the linux partition, the the root partition would be assigned to /dev/hda2. This is saying simply as there are also swap partitions and primary and secondary partition but none of that is required for an install. Then as one adds devices with file systems/partitions one has to specify the mount point.

Your installation is asking for the device that is the mount point of root partition.

on my computer
Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
/dev/hda2 1014784 907732 54611 94% /
/dev/hda4 12932336 9300984 2959218 76% /hda4

So on this computer the root partition is /dev/hda2 and I have a second partition that I call or mount at /hda4 but I could call /hda4 any name, but I chose to use the actual device as I confuse myself less. but I'm a sick dude.

I visited the Corel booth at Linux World on Friday and I was surprised to find that no one could show me the office suite 2000 but only the Word perfect. Once again I find that one must parse the meaning of every sentence in a Corel press release to figure out what might they mean.

I also could not get anyone at the sun booth to show me the elements of star office. That was because all the high paid personel from sun was busy giving sticker to those who could care less about any sun products but wanted the canvas bag they were giving away if you got sticker from some number of presenters. BUt every one was just budding in and asking for stickers so you could not carry on a conversation. Way to go sun.
