I think this is the heart of much of what you have said. I'd be interested in knowing what reality you have to back this up, because quite honestly I am not well enough informed.

I hear about many pilot projects or small deployments here and there of alternate technologies. Nothing I hear seems to have anywhere near the momentum behind it to reach deep penetration within anywhere near 3-5 years.

Simply look at the time it has taken to deploy HFC and DSL. Its been several years and we are still at only ~1/4 deployment. Is running fiber to the curb going to suddenly go a lot faster? Can multi- tens of billions of dollars of investment be justified when there are already two major alternate methods nearing volume deployment?

Who has truely shown themselves willing to spend the dollars and the manpower to get "better" technology spread throughout the land? Nobody I've seen has stepped up to the plate.

What am I missing?
