You whoose. I used to go 2 1/4 in my 10ga. As I remember 1 1/4 is a magnum in 2 3/4 20ga.

Since you are loading, look into some slower burning powders and go for the 1 1/8 load. I used to load a 12, 2 3/4, half way to a magnum with 1 3/8 oz using Winchester 540 powder and got no real recoil and a really nice pattern. Loaded with #5s it was a pheasant killing sob even in a cylinder bore. If you have a problem burning the powder with the slower burners just crimp a little deeper.

If they will let you, stand on the trap house or off to one side for crossing shots. Get a copy of Bob Bristers- "The Art and Science of Shotgunning".

30 years ago we had a ball on Sundays. Used an Outers flinger mounted on a tire and a hand tosser. 3 of us would take 15 boxes of reloads and a couple of cases of Blue Rock and blast away. Also a couple of belted magnums and always several 500 round bricks for the .22 pistoles. Hearing protection in the 60s? What? We don't need no stinking ear plugs. Was that what you were asking? I did get to where I could toss 5 by hand and usually smoke 'em all.
