Chuzzlewit, I understand this. I was referring to ROIC which includes both operating earnings and profits from other sources. In this case those profits generated from options trading that flow directly into Stockholder's Equity [Capital Stock & Capital in excess...] but not into the Retained Earnings account.

As you may already know DELL has benefited greatly in the past by selling puts and buying call options and this has positively impacted ROIC, Cash Flow and the Cash Conversion Cycle. Unless they were callous enough to buy puts and sell calls this quarter I suspect that these three measures have suffered.
