Mike, hopefully Zeuspaul will be along shortly, meanwhile a few thoughts,

PCI slots will give you 100bps transfer, ISA 10Bps. USB i'm sure is 100bps.
If you use ISA then you are limited to 10bps, (16) bit slot.
#2 & #5 PCIs are open, you have tried both? Can you move fan from #1 to #5 or ISA1? Move sound card to #5 PCI and try the other NIC in these?. Are you connecting 2 computers with a crossover cable.

Thinking the USB can carry 127 devices with Ports. No IRQ conflicts here. Change them on fly. This may be the best.?

I know there were IRQ conflicts with my BH6 but swapping the cards around they all work. A NIC may conflict with AGP where a sound card would not.

If you are using a ISA NIC in 2nd computer, then try a ISA NIC here. You can connect one to other (PCI to ISA as long as the PCI is 10/100) but limited to 10bps or whatever.

Regards, /jw

I Defer to Zeuspaul when he arrives.
